Artist's Statement
Organic matter, the likes of nature and its many mysteries, keep me going day by day. The ripples in a puddle on the sidewalk to the gleam of wax on the topside of a healthy leaf, I'm inspired by the illusions of reality as I live through life in the visual. In my work I constantly think back to such things and how I can use these ideas to my advantage. Abstract linework and unconventional colors reflect my interest in the nature of the world from a scientific, spiritual, and psychedelic perspective. Abstraction is a creative feature of the brain, and particular catalysts help in breaking down the filter of reality into a unique view on the fabric of the universe. I’m constantly chasing ideas centered around the innate mystique of altered experience, wondering about the things we cannot see with only our eyes.
References that harbor my interest the most are Glenn Brown, Hilma af Klint, and Mark Rothko for their unique concepts on lines, form, and color. They treated the abstract as an observation and an experience of the spiritual and of the mind. My particular style is also influenced by the flowing lines and subtle dimension of art nouveau, as well as the spatial cave paintings in the early days of humanity that depicted another way of reality and expression. My ultimate vision is to make something beautiful, but also mysterious and inviting to the mind of the viewer.
